DraftKings and FanDuel are now illegal for Illinois residents to play.
The attack on Daily Fantasy Sports, often called DFS, has stretched to the midwest. After New York ruled that both FanDuel and DraftKings are considered illegal gambling, another state has joined the fight as well.
According to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, DFS is considered illegal gambling and players who reside in Illinois will not be able to participate.
This is another huge blow to the DFS way of life, as two major American markets — Chicago and New York — are now no longer eligible to be a part of the fun. New York and Illinois banning DFS is surely going to open the possibility of other states following suit, as the future of DraftKings and FanDuel remain as shaky as ever.
Of course, this isn’t the end of either company, as there are still 48 other states where you can play DFS without having to worry about committing a crime. For what it’s worth, if you play right now and you live in Illinois, there is nothing that prompts you to stop.
This will all change, but the future of DFS has suffered another brutal blow that can’t make investors very pleased about where things are going.
