MLB Free Agency: Top five remaining free agents
3. Yoenis Cespedes
Cespedes is the best right-handed power bat available in free agency. He’s 30 years old and he doesn’t turn 31 until October. He has some flaws to his game, but he’s still an extremely talented MLB player who should still be able to get a nine-figure deal somewhere. Cespedes proved in the World Series that he is not a capable center fielder, but he can still be at worst average in one of the corner outfield spots. His arm is arguably the best in the MLB.
He’s only been in the MLB for four seasons but already has 106 home runs despite playing his first 365 games (out of 575) in Oakland. He had a huge year in 2015 with a .291/.328/.542 stat line and 35 homers to go along with 105 RBIs. He helped propel the New York Mets into the World Series.
Multiple teams have expressed interest in Cespedes, including the Los Angeles Angels, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and the Washington Nationals. The outfield market is quickly shrinking. Some MLB team is going to man up and give him the contract that he deserves. Will he live it up to it? Who knows. But one thing’s for sure: he’s the most dynamic right-handed bat left in free agency.
