panthers. Derrick Henry. 31. player. 87.
When at the backend of the first round it’s almost like a free pass. Sure there’s no carte blanche to really waste a pick, but there’s also a little freedom to get wild and roll the dice on some first-round talent that may have slipped your way for whatever reason.

And lookie lookie lookie what slipped all the way down to the Carolina Panthers at pick No. 31: reining Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry. Not a bad gamble at all by Riverboat Ron Rivera and Co.

Henry runs like he wants to punish every person in his way. Read any profile on him and the terms “freight train,” “Mack truck,” and “brick wall” are all tossed around casually. Coaches, opponents and scouts alike all remark how Henry is one of the types who only gets stronger as games go along – Adrian Peterson has a similar endurance.

If there’s a concern about Henry it’s that he could be the product of a great system with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Several backs have come from Tuscaloosa only to fall short of expectations – Trent Richardson, Mark Ingram and even Eddy Lacie of late.

Nonetheless, Jonathan Stewart is aging and the Panthers could use a few more playmakers. Why not team a couple of Heisman winners in Henry and Cam Newton.
. RB
