New Orleans Pelicans vs Memphis Grizzlies

After making the playoffs a season ago, who would have thought the New Orleans Pelicans would be just as close to last place in the Western Conference as the No. 8 spot. The Pelicans are just 13-26 on the year and going just 3-6 in their past nine games is not helping any hope for a playoff run. Also, a 5-17 road record has been devastating to this franchise.

Anthony Davis is still one of the best big men in the league, if not the best, as he’s averaging 22.8 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. He’s a force in the post and he’s going to have his hands full against Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol during Monday’s matinee. Tierce Evans, Jrue Holiday and Eric Gordon have all been underwhelming this year.

The Memphis Grizzlies, on the other hand, have won two straight games thanks to a buzzer-beater by Mario Chalmers against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday. Memphis is 23-19 through the midway point of the season and is in sixth place in the conference, just within a half-game of fifth place in the West.

Gasol and Randolph have been a force in the paint for the Grizzlies for the past few seasons and this year is no different. Gasol is averaging 16.4 points and 17.3 rebounds per game while Randolph is putting up 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds. Mike Conley is also having a solid season, averaging 15.1 points and 5.8 assists per game.
