1. Adam Oates

Adam Oates was last seen as the head coach of the Washington Capitals from 2012 to 2014. He also spent time last season as an assistant coach for the Devils. Oates catches a lot of flack for his time in DC and how he handled the Capitals. However, it’s likely that Adam Oates has learned from his experience as head coach. He could be a safe pick to replace Mike Yeo in Minnesota.

Oates was an extremely good offensive player. Naturally, he is a master of coaching offense. The Wild have had a relatively unimpressive power play for quite some time. Oates would help to fix that by making it at worst good. He would help get the most out of Mikko Koivu, Parise, Niederreiter, Pominville, and the rest of Minnesota’s forwards. That’s where Mike Yeo failed. Mike Yeo failed to get the most out of his forwards.

Oates would also be inheriting an impressive blue line led by defensemen Ryan Suter and Jared Spurgeon. Matt Dumba and Marco Scandella would help form a blue line that could contribute on both ends of the ice. Adam Oates is well respected around the league and he does have experience working with Zach Parise. That familiarity could make him a solid fit for the Wild.
