We tell you how to get more Gold in Clash Royale, the new mobile game from the makers of Clash of Clans.

If you haven’t yet started playing Clash Royale, Supercell’s follow-up to Clash of Clans, you will soon. Or someone you know will: friends, family, co-workers, etc. It’s not only the most popular iPhone and Android game right now, it’s also making its developers a killing, raking in the dough.

Let’s say for the sake of argument you’ve just taken your first steps into a game that is one part MOBA, one part collectible card game. One thing you’ve no doubt realized early on is that you need Gold to advance. Not only can you use Gold to buy more cards in the in-game shop, you’ll need it in ever increasing amounts to level up the units and buildings you already have once you’ve acquired enough copies of those cards.

So how can you get more Gold in Clash Royale? We’ll break down your options for you.

Open Some Chests

Chests are your primary method for acquiring new cards, but they’ll get you Gold too. The chests you win in battle all have Gold in them; the rarer the chest, the more Gold is inside.

The Free Chest also has Gold in it, and since a new one arrives every four hours, it’s the best reason to log in to Clash Royale multiple times each day. The Crown Chest is available only once every 24 hours, and you have to win 10 Crowns in battle to open it, but it’s another one to keep in mind.

Finally, if you’ve got a bunch of Gems burning a hole in your pocket, you can buy chests directly in the in-game shop. Tapping on any chest will show exactly how much Gold you can expect to find inside.

Donate Cards to Teammates in Your Clan

You did join a Clan, right? It’s a big help to belong to one, so go ahead and take care of that now. We’ll wait …

Jokes aside, donating cards requested by your clan-mates pays off. You’ll get experience points to help you level up and get some Gold as well. Giving is worth it, so look for the “Donate” buttons in your Clan chat channel and give away some of the cards you don’t need.

Buy Gold in the Shop

This is the one option you don’t want to exercise unless you absolutely have to, as those precious Gems could be put to better use. Still, it’s there if you need it.

Simply scroll all the way down to the bottom of the shop and you’ll find three choices (at the time of this post):

  • Pouch of Gold: 1000 Gold for 60 Gems
  • Bucket of Gold: 10,000 Gold for 500 Gems
  • Wagon of Gold: 100,000 Gold for 4500 Gems

To put that in perspective, 4500 Gems is equivalent to about $35 of real money, so that last one isn’t cheap, though it should square you away for Gold for quite some time. Supercell could always run Gold sales too, so be sure to see if there are deals available before you plunk down some Gems for Gold.
