Boris Diaw wants to go to outer space after he retires

Boris Diaw has some interesting aspirations for the day he retires from the NBA.

When professional athletes retire from their respective sport, they often go onto other ventures. This could be due to their sport taking up so much of their time for years, perhaps over a decade. They get all the time in the world off and want to try things that may or may not be related to sports. Some like to stay in the industry and become an executive, a coach, a broadcaster, or in Michael Jordan’s case, an owner.

The ones who don’t stay in sports might go into business. The retired athlete may open a restaurant or invest in a company.

Then there are the players who go completely off the map and do something obscure. It leads to the fans not hearing about them until a “Where are they now?” column is published. While he’s still an active player, Boris Diaw of the San Antonio Spurs has some interesting plans for when he retires that may fit in with this.

In a profile done by the NBPA, the NBA veteran said that after he’s gone from the league, “I will go to space at some point. I won’t say in the next 10 years, but maybe in 30.”

That’s an interesting goal of Diaw’s to do once he retires. In 30 years, he’ll be 63 years old, so he may reconsider that timetable sooner than later. Or maybe the Frenchman will be crazy and go to space in his later years. He needs to do something with that money, right?
