Game of Thrones killed off a pretty big character before we got to know him.
Let’s get this out of the way right now — if you haven’t seen the season premiere of Game of Thrones, you need to stop here and watch it. There are massive spoilers ahead and I really don’t want that on my conscious, so just stop and come back so we can discuss what you’re going to see.
If you did watch the season premiere, then boy do we have some things to talk about when it comes to the Sand Snakes and their revenge on the Martell’s.
Alright, you’ve been warned.
Around them middle of the episode, Game of Thrones decided that it was pretty much done developing the story of Doran and Trystane Martell — and killed them both off. While it could be argued that Doran might have survived being stabbed by Ellaria, the same can very much not be said about his son, Trystane.
It was unexpected and it was pretty brutal:
Again, this is something that fans of the book probably won’t appreciate, but that’s alright. This is an adaptation of Game of Thrones, not a gospel re-telling.
