Paint huffers have a serious problem with a black girl becoming Iron Man

Marvel announced that 15-year old RiRi Williams will be taking over as Iron Man — and mouth breathers remembered how to use Twitter.

If there is one thing that is a constant throughout human history, it’s that people hate change. They abhor the idea that something will no longer be as it was, and they rail against it out of fear, spite or what-have-you.

While most of the population in America is getting progressively smarter and more accepting, there will always be glue sticks to snack on, and no shortage of outlets to stick forks into — which is why we’re getting the reaction we are today after news that Iron Man will be played by a new character.

Tony Stark is retiring as Iron Man, and the torch is being passed to a 15-year old African American character named RiRi Williams.

Needless to say, the window lickers of the world dragged their knuckles over their keyboards to say how much they didn’t like the idea of a black, female Iron Man.

Here’s a cliff notes version in case you are in a rush:

1) She’s a 15-year old girl
2) She’s a 15-year old black girl
3 It’s Iron-MAN not Iron-WOMAN

The Tweets speak for themselves:

That last one isn’t a bad Tweet, it’s honest and all too real.

It highlights the utter lack of black writers in the comic community as well as the lack of women — not just black women — writers who are given an opportunity in the business.

While it’s cool and beyond badass that RiRi Williams is getting an opportunity to play Iron Man in the comics, it’d be nice if the same opportunity could be afforded to black and female writers to come up with RiRi’s story.
