5. David Ortiz

Big Papi has been around the home run derby for many, many years. Whether he is participating or on the side reacting to a long home run hit, it wouldn’t be the derby without him. When he does participate, he’s been pretty good.

The Red Sox slugger has won one home run derby in five tries. He ranks second all-time in derby home runs hit with 77. In his one derby win in 2010, Ortiz hit 32 total home runs including 11 in the final round to lead him to victory over Hanley Ramirez. His high for one round is 17.

Ortiz has 523 career home runs in the MLB so it is no surprise that he has had success in the home run derby. The days in the derby might be limited for the future Hall of Famer but his legacy will not soon be forgotten.
