5. Pitcher’s Home Run Derby

One of the most underrated moments in baseball is when a pitcher hits a home run. It’s something that is quite rare and fans of baseball have to appreciate the sheer joy that is on the face of the pitcher and his teammates. Pitchers who can rake are respected by everyone. Why not pay homage to them?

Who wouldn’t want to see Bartolo Colon participate in a Home Run Derby? Fans would tune in to see Madison Bumgarner take some cuts, especially since Bumgarner is probably a better hitter than a decent portion of position players. Pitchers would love it, fans would love it, and players would get a kick out of watching pitchers hit.

People think that pitchers might not be able to put on a show, but they could be wrong. Keep in mind that most pitchers used to be hitters at some point. Just like some position players are actually good pitchers (Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles is a great example), some pitchers are much better hitters than they are given credit for.

The MLB could even bring back some alumni. Why not bring back Mike Hampton, who was an extremely good hitter in his hey day? Who wouldn’t want to laugh and cheer as Randy Johnson took some swings? This could be a really entertaining event for everyone involved.
