Delays from previous tournaments meant the first American winner at Evo 2016, for Killer Instinct, came late.

It’s been a long time coming, but Saturday night (or Sunday morning, depending on where you were watching from) finally saw the end of Killer Instinct play at Evo 2016. No matter which season carried your favorite characters, they were all represented throughout the Top 8 Finals.

Darnell “Hollywood Sleep” Waller knocked Kenneth “UA Bass” Armas into the Losers Bracket as part of the Winners Bracket Finals. However, as we’ve seen all day at Evo 2016, the two made their way to the Grand Finals for the ultimate rematch. In the end, Hollywood Sleep took the Killer Instinct Finals with a 3-1 victory.

As expected from an Xbox One exclusive title (just over 67,000 total have been sold in Japan), the Killer Instinct Top 8 consisted solely of American players. Regardless, that doesn’t mean we didn’t see some absolutely invigorating play, especially from the pair of 16-year-olds. We even saw a Gargos double minion pop in the deciding Winners Finals bracket game, and then again in the Grand Finals!

In addition to tournament play, Iron Galaxy Studios used the platform to reveal their newest Season 3 character, Eyedol. Returning from the original Killer Instinct, he offers the same gruesome brutality mixed in with magical projectiles that will make him a fearsome matchup. Eyedol is expected to drop for Killer Instinct Season 3 pass owners on July 22.

Here are the Top 8 final results for Killer Instinct play at Evo 2016.

  1. Darnell “Hollywood Sleep” Waller
  2. Kenneth “UA Bass” Armas
  3. Jamill “SeaDragon” Boykin
  4. Nicholas “Circa Nicky” Iovene
  5. Paul “PaulB” Ramos
  6. (T-5) Jacob “RL Runex” Runsewe
  7. Angel “GnarlyFeats” Gonzalez
  8. (T-7) Josue “Grief” Herrera

That’s it for Evo 2016’s Saturday Grand Finals results. The last five Top-8 Finals will be coming to you live tomorrow from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
