This is probably the most anticipated Champions League game of the week for neutral supporters, as Pep Guardiola returns to the Camp Nou to face one of his former teams.
Outscoring Man. City 7-2, Barcelona have won all four of their previous matches with City. Guardiola, however, is a master tactician and has a knack for winning big matches. It’s the first time Guardiola will lead his new team out against the Catalans.
Man. City haven’t won in three games in all competitions and had to settle for a 3-3 draw with Celtic in their last Champions League game.
Barcelona won their first two Champions League games and sit atop Group C with six points, two ahead of their English opponents. It hasn’t been all rainbows and sunshine for Barcelona, either, as they were defeated 4-3 to Celta de Vigo just over two weeks ago in La Liga.
Man. City, no matter how good their manager is, have a gargantuan task on their hands. The Catalans are almost invincible at home in the Champions League, winning 12 on the trot and remaining unbeaten in 17 matches, 16 of which are victories. It’s a record that dates back to September 2013.
The Catalans have lost only two matches at home to English opposition in the last 31, a stat that further emboldens exactly what Man. City is up against.
There is a glimmer of hope for City. Barcelona, with 13 points in seven games, have endured their worst domestic start to a season since 2005/06.
Unfortunately for City supporters, Barcelona went on to win La Liga and Champions League double that season.
