Apple Live Event pokes fun at N.C. State, Arkansas Week 8 losses

Two college football games were featured during a presentation at the most recent Apple Live Event.
It seems as though Apple found a way to speak to another market: the sports fan.
During the company’s most recent live event, Apple introduced a newer MacBook, which will be equipped with a touch-enabled power bar. Additionally, Apple brought up details about the iPhone 8, even though the iPhone 7 hit stores last month. But instead of focusing on Silicon Valley jargon, Apple switched things up by airing two college football games from Week 8: Arkansas-Auburn and N.C. State-Louisville.
In case you missed either, N.C. State was held to just nine first downs to Louisville’s 24. Louisville also poured on double the amount of total yards against a team that restricted Clemson to 24 points in Week 7. Auburn’s win was just as convincing. Despite throwing for just 89 yards, Auburn compensated it with the ground game led by Kamryn Pettway (192 yards, 2 TD). Alas, Brett Bielema and Co. weren’t given a proper reception at Auburn as they lost 59-3.
And for those that don’t know, Auburn is Apple CEO Tim Cook’s alma mater. In 1982, Cook would graduate from Auburn with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. As a contribution in his name, Cook sponsors an annual scholarship for undergraduates in the engineering program. Alongside his time at Auburn, Cook also attended Duke to obtain his Masters in Business Administration.

It’s one thing to have a campus laugh you off the field. But to have the attention of Apple replaying your loss is just shameful. That has to be the most depressing publicity. Luckily for Arkansas, they’re on a bye week, but they’ll host a boring Florida team on Nov. 5. N.C. State, on the other hand, needs to redeem itself against Boston College in Week 9.
Well played, Apple.
