Although Michigan State is on a three-game losing streak, combo forward Miles Bridges has rounded into form as an individual prospect. His latest outing, against Purdue, included 33 points on 12-for-17 shooting, seven rebounds and four blocks. The freshman continues to knock down outside shots despite poor free throw shooting (62.8 percent). He’s now made 42.4 percent of his 66 3-point attempts this season. The ability to stretch the floor opens up the game much more for Bridges who is more adept attacking close outs than he is beating defenders from a standstill.
Bridges also has excellent defensive upside. At 6-foot-6 with a strong frame and great athleticism, he has the potential to be a multi-positional defender at the next level. Bridges has proven himself a capable rim protector at the college level, turning away an estimated 5.7 field goal attempts when he’s been on the floor. He also adds the ability to end defensive possessions for his team on the boards. Bridges has snagged 23.0 percent of defensive rebounds this season.
For the Knicks, Bridges provides some much needed versatility that can allow them to play smaller lineups with him and Carmelo Anthony at the forward spots with Kristaps Porzingis at center.
