The Penn State Nittany Lions have the No. 15 recruiting class heading into National Signing Day. Here are the five guys they need to land on February 1st.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are about to become a national powerhouse once again. Head coach James Franklin has this traditional power humming after a stellar 2016 Big Ten Conference Championship.
Heading into 2017 National Signing Day, Franklin’s Penn State program has the No. 15 class heading into Wednesday, February 1st. According to 247Sports, Penn State has 18 recruits, four of whom early enrolled. The Nittany Lions have nine four-star recruits and nine three-star recruits.
While Penn State is essentially locked into have another top-25 recruiting class, here are the five players whose commitments could potentially get the Nittany Lions into the top 10 on Wednesday.
Every Power 5 program of significance has a reach prospect that would be a pipe dream if it can land his commitment. While he hails from Philadelphia, running back D’Andre Swift remains committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. That doesn’t mean Franklin shouldn’t try to keep him in-state.
Swift is the No. 1 player from Pennsylvania, the No. 4 running back and the No. 33 player nationally in the 2017 high school recruiting class. 247Sports has Swift as a four-star recruit with a 0.9828 grade. He committed to Georgia on September 1st over Florida State and Penn State.
Since Swift did not early enroll, there is still a chance that Penn State could be the one team that could get him to flip in the 11th hour. Florida State looks to be stacked at running back already. It would be miraculous if Swift flips from Georgia to Penn State, but Franklin should still try nevertheless.
