In this summer’s NBA Draft, Kentucky Wildcats point guard De’Aaron Fox is expected to be a top-10 pick. However, his journey to this level was unusual.

Just like most Kentucky freshmen, De’Aaron Fox was a McDonald’s All-American out of high school. The New Orleans native has drawn comparisons to former Wildcat and NBA All-Star John Wall, and for good reason.

No one in college basketball is faster with the ball in their hands than Fox. To take things even further, there are not many basketball players in the world faster than Fox with the rock in their hands.

While Fox has undoubtedly put the time in at the gym, he’s used another tactic to help his game out. His father, Aaron Fox, elaborated on the matter.

"“He was one of those kids you didn’t really have to teach much on the basketball court—show him something and he could learn,” Aaron Fox says. “A lot of people don’t believe me, but I tell everyone that that PlayStation helped him get where he is today.“He’d play that PlayStation, and he could master it in no time. He learned pick-and-rolls. He learned how to roll off a ball screen. I tell kids if they want to learn something about basketball, go put it on pro mode on 2K and let them play.”"

Yes, 2K.

Oftentimes you hear older generations complain about kids not going outside anymore because all they want to do is play video games all day. Well, in the case of Fox, it has helped him become the player he is today.

Head coach John Calipari definitely believes in his floor general’s ability.

"“At the end of the day, [I don’t know] if there’s a better point guard in the country.”"

The Wildcats play host to Vanderbilt tonight.
