I’m not really sure what to expect from Ed Sheeran in his upcoming Game of Thrones cameo.
Game of Thrones casting made waves this week when they confirmed Ed Sheeran will be making a guest appearance this upcoming season. Reported by Elizabeth Wagmeister of Variety, the claims were confirmed during a panel with the show’s producers.
It appears Maisie Williams, better known as Arya Stark, is a huge fan of Ed Sheeran and may have spurred his casting.
It’s impossible to tell whether Sheeran is purely taking the role for fandom’s sake, or it’s possible he intends to make a transition into film. Aside from a small part in Bridget Jones’ Baby, Sheeran hasn’t spent much time on-screen. If that’s the case, there are few better platforms than peak Game of Thrones to advance your career.
The capacity in which Sheeran will be involved isn’t clear, but I can’t imagine it’s a role that takes up more than a few minutes of screen time. Given he didn’t spend much time filming the role and there aren’t major characters being introduced there aren’t really any other realistic possibilities.
Whoever he’s supposed to be, it will be interesting to see his character’s fate. For some reason, I expect that he will be killed after only a few lines. Maybe a meager flutist playing a tune in King’s Landing that gets in Cersei’s way so The Mountain rips his guts out? Or maybe he’ll be a Wildling turned White Walker?? Or maybe, just maybe, he will be Dany’s new husband?!? The possibilities are endless. Hate to say it, but I think death is most likely, and probably a gruesome one.
We’ll have to wait a few more months but will soon know what Westerns fate has been bestowed to Mr. Sheeran.
