The injuries continue to pile up in just week one of fantasy baseball. The Nationals put shortstop Trea Turner and Red Sox put Jackie Bradley on the DL.

The fantasy baseball season is one week in and we have two more injuries to add to the list. Along with all of the hurt players, two widely owned hitters make their debut on the 10-day DL.

First, the Washington Nationals put their star shortstop, Trea Turner, on the DL with a hamstring injury. The other is Boston Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. He missed the last two games with a knee injury and will be DL-eligible on Tuesday.

The good thing is that it’s early and you should be able to find a replacement for the short-term. Hopefully, these are just two-week injuries and not longer.

More from Fantasy Baseball

Turner suffered the hamstring strain during the April 8 game. It hasn’t been a good first week for the young star. He is hitting .158/.158/.211 with seven strikeouts and four steals. The early speed is nice considering the lack of steals so far this season. The lack of hits will certainly help your average over the next two weeks.

In ESPN leagues, Turner has second base and outfield eligibility. He won’t gain shortstop eligibility until his 10th game played. If you need a replacement, I will give you some second base options. I’ll cover outfielders when I talk about Bradley.

San Diego Padres second baseman Ryan Schimpf is owned in just 8.4 percent of leagues. He struggles against lefties so his playing time is limited and he is in a 0-for-10 slump, but he has a lot of upside.

New Atlanta Braves acquisition Brandon Phillips is hitting .292, with at least one hit in five of the first six games. He has two runs, two RBI and a steal. Phillips is owned in 37.8 percent of leagues.

Philadelphia Phillies Cesar Hernandez is another good option. Despite the Phillies not being a solid offense, Hernandez will get his own. He is hitting .269 with seven runs, one homer and four RBI. He is available in about 83 percent of leagues.

Bradley hyperextend his right knee while rounding first base in the top of the ninth inning on April 8. He was expected to play on Sunday but that changed before the game. The MRI cleared him of any significant damage and a DL stint wasn’t likely. Wrong again.

Bradley did not play Monday and will be placed on the 10-day DL. The expectation is that he will spend the minimum time required on the DL. Though, with the way this injury has gone, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Chris Young will take Bradley’s place in the outfield. He hit well in the time he played last season. There are better hitters available, though.

The Tampa Bay Rays look good so far and Corey Dickerson is part of the reason why. He is hitting .360 with four runs, two home runs and four RBI. Dickerson is available in 70 percent of leagues.

Mitch Haniger is living up to the hype. The young Seattle Mariners outfielder has three home runs, eight runs, four RBI and a steal. He is hitting .214, so if you need batting average help, he may not be your best option. Haniger is owned in just 21 percent of leagues.

Jayson Werth continues to hit. He has two home runs and six RBI with a .333 average. He isn’t someone I want to invest in long-term but as a two-week fill-in, I’d bite. Werth is available in 85 percent of leagues.

Both Turner and Bradley are obviously worth keeping. Even with the early season struggles from both players, it’s only one week. The season is a long ride and requires patience. Injuries happen. So, add one of these players I mentioned and make it through the next two weeks without a problem.
