WNBA Draft 2017: Full three-round results
Taking a look at the full results for all three rounds in the 2017 WNBA Draft
On Thursday night, the 2017 WNBA Draft took place with the San Antonio Stars on the clock first with the top pick. It’d be great to say that there was some big dramatic moment about which woman was going to be the first-overall pick. However, that was far from the case. After the last year in women’s college basketball, the top selection was obvious.
Kelsey Plum of the Washington Huskies was the clear-cut first-overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft. In her final season in Spokane, Plum was simply unstoppable. She averaged 31.7 points per game while still dishing out 4.8 assists per game. By the time she left Washington, she had set the NCAA career scoring record, but also set the single-season mark in her senior year.
With that type of ability, the 5-foot-8 guard was the obvious pick. And, frankly, it was quite obvious that Alaina Coates out of South Carolina was primed to go off the board second. The big center had also been a dominant force, but obviously in a different manner than Plum. But what happened after that in the three rounds of the draft?

As stated previously, Plum and Coates were the obvious two picks to start off the 2017 WNBA Draft. Perhaps the most interesting other aspect of the draft was the defending champion Lynx looking internationally in Rounds 2 and 3. Picking at the end of the round, they have to get creative and they clearly did.
