Houston Rockets center Nene gets ejected between the third and fourth quarter in Game 1 for grabbing San Antonio Spurs center Dewayne Dedmon’s throat.

It’s been a blowout in Game 1 of the 2017 Western Conference Semifinals heavily in the favor of the No. 3 Houston Rockets over the No. 2 San Antonio Spurs. That didn’t seem to matter, as tensions were high in this Lone Star State hardwood rivalry. Things got heated at the end of the third quarter between Houston center Nene and San Antonio center Dewayne Dedmon.

Since it was such a lopsided affair, it was initially hard to see in real time what happened. Apparently Nene got so fed up with whatever Dedmon was doing that he straight up grabbed Dedmon’s throat. Nene did in right in front of an official and was promptly ejected before the start of the fourth quarter.

When a little kid says “watch me Nene”, that now could mean one of two things. A kid could dance like J.J. Watt in the end zone to that Silento song or it could mean an abrupt throat grab like something you’d see in Super Smash Brothers. Either way, kids and their dang video games.

It was so stupid of Nene to do that, as he was assessed a double technical foul and will likely miss Game 2 in San Antonio. He had been a crucial player in Mike D’Antoni’s eight-man rotation, primarily backing up center Clint Capela.

Nene would have been better served putting 10 fingers on Dedmon’s chest rather than putting five on his throat. Then again, maybe he did have some method to his madness.

Not even five minutes into the fourth quarter, Dedmon would get tossed from the contest for doing something stupid. This was a dumb blowout win for the Rockets and two big men got to hit the showers a little earlier than expected.

Who knows what Game 2 will bring in this best-of-seven series? Probably more Rockets’ three-pointers and the Spurs looking old as dirt. Nene … Bye, bye, bye.
