MLB All-Star Game 2017: Predicting rosters
Second Base
American League:
Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve (1,615,938 votes) leads the Yankees’ Starlin Castro by roughly 600,000 votes, with Cleveland’s Jason Kipnis a distant third with 538,061 votes. Since this is yet another runaway race, we’ll focus on these two.
In this case, the voters have an interesting dilemma. Altuve (.331, 10 HR, 34 RBI) and Castro (.324, 12 HR, 43 RBI) are fairly evenly matched. Altuve doesn’t have the home runs or RBI that Castro has, but he’s a much more consistent hitter. Astros fans are going to make sure he stays at the top of the ballot.
Prediction: Jose Altuve
National League:
As it was with first base, the National League’s second base ballot is also a race between the top two spots and once again it’s a member of the Washington Nationals who is out in front ahead of a Cubbie.
Daniel Murphy (1,745,231 votes) has a 700,000 vote lead over Chicago Cubs’ second baseman Javier Baez. Murphy (.345, 11 HR, 36 RBI) leads Baez (.242. 10 HR, 28 RBI) in all areas, and it’s not likely that Baez will come close to knocking Murphy from the lead.
Prediction: Daniel Murphy
