NEW YORK, NY - DECEMBER 02: Justin Holiday

Though it’s not to the degree of his younger brother Jrue’s new extension, wing Justin Holiday has signed a two-year contract to play for the Chicago Bulls.

After his best year in the NBA with the 2016-17 New York Knicks, wing Justin Holiday has decided to leave Manhattan to go back to the Windy City on a new contract with the Chicago Bulls. Holiday may have played all 82 games for the lousy Knicks last year, but he must have really liked what was going on in Chicago from that 27-game stretch from two years ago to go back.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, “Free agent guard Justin Holiday has agreed to a two-year, $9 million deal with the Chicago Bulls.” This is by far and away Holiday’s biggest contract to date.

Holiday has played on five NBA teams in his journeyman four-year NBA career. He first played for the Philadelphia 76ers shortly after his younger brother Jrue Holiday was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2013-14. After a year out of the NBA, Holiday played for the 2014-15 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors.

He would then sign a two-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks in summer 2015 on the veteran’s minimum. Atlanta would trade him at the 2016 NBA trade deadline in a deal for veteran point guard Kirk Hinrich to the Bulls. Holiday would go to the Knicks in the deal that sent Derrick Rose to New York in summer 2016.

Obviously getting paid seven figures is huge for Holiday and his family. He will be going into a rebuilding situation in Chicago, but already has an idea of what is expected out of him from head coach Fred Hoiberg from his previous stop in Chicago.

While Jrue inking a massive multi-year to stay put with the Pelicans, seeing Justin get a competitive NBA salary with the Bulls might be the bigger win for the Holiday family this free agency cycle. It’s good to be a Holiday this summer, that’s for sure.
