MLB names 2017 National League All-Star starters, pitchers and reserves

The 2017 MLB All-Star Game rosters have been announced. Here are the pitchers and the reserve players that will make up the National League squad this year.

On Sunday, July 2, the 2017 MLB All-Star Game rosters were announced. This year’s All-Star Game will be played at Marlins Park, home of the National League’s Miami Marlins. It’s always a good time to see the best players in both leagues go head-to-head in the Mid-Summer Classic.

The All-Star starters were announced right around on Sunday. Five of the eight starters in the National League play for either the Colorado Rockies or the Washington Nationals.

• 2B: Daniel Murphy, Washington Nationals
• SS: Zack Cozart, Cincinnati Reds
• 3B: Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies

• OF: Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals
• OF: Marcell Ozuna, Miami Marlins

Chicago Cubs skipper Joe Maddon had the pleasure of putting together the rest of the National League roster of pitchers, reserves and the final five. This what Maddon did to assemble his All-Star squad.

Here are the pitchers that make up the 2017 National League All-Star team.

• Greg Holland, Colorado Rockies
• Kenley Jansen, Los Angeles Dodgers

• Pat Neshek, Philadelphia Phillies

As expected, all the best arms in baseball got to make it to Miami this year in the National League. Some of those pitchers include Zack Greinke of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Max Scherzer of the Nationals. The Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen and the Rockies’ Greg Holland should help the bullpen be spectacular in the All-Star Game.

Here are the reserve position players that get to represent the Senior Circuit down in Miami for the Mid-Summer Classic.

While the Dodgers have a pair of young phenoms on the reserve list in Cody Bellinger and Corey Seager, the bulk of Maddon’s reserves roster is chock full of guys we’ve known for a while now. Some of these familiar faces include Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina and Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto.

Here are the five players that Maddon has left the fans to decide in the final vote.

The final vote in the National League could be very interesting. Marlins first baseman Justin Bour could garner a huge chunk of the local vote that wants to see their guy get in. Third baseman Kris Bryant would be a popular choice as the World Series hero for Maddon’s 2016 Cubs. Anthony Rendon, Mark Reynolds and Justin Turner all play for playoff contenders in the Senior Circuit.

Overall, most of the usual suspects will be representing the National League in the All-Star Game. Being that it is a down year for the Cardinals and San Francisco Giants is odd, but this year’s NL squad could do some serious damage down in Miami this year.
