Minnesota Twins

AL, Central

With only 7.5 games separating top to bottom in the AL Central, we can expect there to be quite a few deals going down before the deadline on many of these teams’ rosters. One club that is definitely right in the thick of things that could be making some moves is the Minnesota Twins.

Paul Molitor’s club looks to have gotten whatever we want to define that 2016 season for Minnesota as out of the way. Many of the club’s young players have popped like pitcher Jose Berrios and slugger Miguel Sano. It helps that Ervin Santana is flexing his dominance as one of the best aces in the Junior Circuit this year.

As it is with any contending team, a club can never have too many talented arms. Minnesota is in position to either win the AL Central or make it into the 2017 AL Wild Card Game. Through the 4th of July, the Twins are tied for a wild card berth and are only 1.5 games back of the first-place Cleveland Indians.

Frankly, Minnesota will need to win with pitching down the stretch. Adding a third arm in the form of Archer would certainly help the Twins get back into the AL postseason. It has been a long seven years since the Twin Cities reached the postseason. They have never been a wild card team, but would embrace an opportunity October baseball gives them. Could Archer put the Twins over the top?
