The American League won the 2017 MLB All-Star Game over the National League, 2-1. Here are all the highlights from this year’s Mid-Summer Classic in Miami.

After an eventful Home Run Derby at the 2017 MLB All-Star Game on Monday night at Marlins Park in Miami, it took a while for anything really exciting to get started in this year’s Mid-Summer Classic.

There were no runs to be had in the first four frames. It was mostly about Bryce Harper’s hair and him asking Joe Buck his thoughts about how good Dak Prescott will be for the Dallas Cowboys on air.

In the top of the fifth inning, Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop would hit a two-out double to left field off Los Angeles Dodgers southpaw Alex Wood. Monday night’s Home Run Derby runner-up Miguel Sano of the Minnesota Twins would single to right field off Washington Nationals first basemen Ryan Zimmerman to put the first run across for the American League.

Things got a little interesting in the sixth inning. Seattle Mariners slugger Nelson Cruz felt like he needed a photo-op with home plate umpire Joe West, so St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina made that Kodak/iPhone moment possible with outstanding photography skills. So of course, Molina would drill an Ervin Santana offering to right-center to tie the game up at one with a powerful solo shot.

After the Molina show, things got really quiet at the All-Star Game before the bottom of the ninth. Molina would draw a walk from Boston Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel and would get as far as being the game-winning on third base. New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto couldn’t handle the heat from Kimbrel and struck out with the game-winning run on third.

It didn’t take long for the American League to get back on top. Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano would crush Chicago Cubs reliever Wade Davis’ offering into the right field stands. The American League would lead 2-1 in the top of the 10th inning.

Cleveland Indians reliever Andrew Miller would come in to close out the National League. He got a big boost by Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton on a great catch to rob Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager of extra bases for the first out. Atlanta Braves outfielder would ground out to Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor for the second out.

Miller would walk Cincinnati Reds first basemen Joey Votto with two outs, bringing rookie Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger to the plate. With a hard-biting slider, Miller would be able to fan the Los Angeles lefty with a nasty pitch to clinch the All-Star Game for the American League.

Overall, this was a pitching dominated Mid-Summer Classic, but the close nature of it made things really interesting in the final frames. Cano’s blast proved to be the difference in the ball game. Not capitalizing with runners on second and third proved costly for the National League.
