Manchester United and backup goalie Sergio Romero have come to terms on a new contract today. This new deal will see the Argentinian goalkeeper stay with United through June 2021.
Romero played a pivotal role in bringing Manchester United back to the Champions League next season, by winning the Europa League. Although Romero only made 18 starts all season, 12 of them in the Europa League, he has proved to be a reliable fill-in for David De Gea when needed.

Romero, 30, appeared in every competition for Manchester United last season. He made his biggest mark for the club in the Europa League. It is because of the performances of Romero, and others like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, that United will be competing in the Champions League again next season.

The impressive stat line for the Argentinian is that he was able to keep 12 clean sheets last season. Of those matches, eight of them came throughout the course of the Europa League campaign. And none of them were more important than the clean sheet he kept against Ajax in the Europa League Final, securing a spot for the Red Devils in the upcoming Champions League.
Sergio Romero had this to say about the new contract,
"“I am delighted to have signed a new contract. Who wouldn’t want to be at the biggest club in the world? We have great goalkeepers here and we are always learning from each other. Of course, it was a very proud moment for me and my family to be part of the Europa League final, and I am looking forward to helping the team build on last season’s success in 2017/18.”"
