Here’s our captain’s log on everything ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ set for this week’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Star Trek will be front and center at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Trekkies are both excited to see new images and possibly a new trailer from Star Trek: Discovery, but are also wary after the debacle that was last year’s Star Trek SDCC events.

Last year was the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, there was a brand new Star Trek film in theaters, and Star Trek: Discovery was allegedly only a few months away. Despite all of this going on CBS seemingly dropped the ball. Many die-hard Trekkies found the panel and the single short trailer for Star Trek: Discovery very disappointing.

This year Star Trek celebrates the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation and we are only a little over a month out from Star Trek: Discovery premiering. If the impressive lineup that Trek has set for SDCC 2017 should also give wary Trekkies a lot of hope for this year.

Some of the minor Star Trek events set for SDCC are …

  • Pictures with the captain’s chair of the U.S.S. Discovery. Do you want to get a picture sitting in the captain’s chair of Starfleet’s newest vessel? You can at this years Comic-Con!
  • Star Trek: Discovery captain’s chair rickshaws. If you can’t get into the real captain’s chair be on the look out for rickshaw taxis around San Diego designed to look like the big chair of the Discovery.
  • A Star Trek: Discovery poster giveaway. 1,000 fans at San Diego Comic-Con will be able to pick up this awesome poster of the Discovery.

These are just the little things of course, the big news is the Star Trek panel. This years Star Trek panel is set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. PT in Ballroom 20. The panel will include Discovery cast-members Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, James Frain, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, and captain Jason Isaacs.  Rainn Wilson who plays Harry Mudd in Discovery will also be on the panel.

The Star Trek: Discovery executive producers will also be on the panel. It’s going to be hard for this group to live up to the now departed former Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Bryan Fuller in the minds of Trekkies, but having the cast on hand will help with that.

This is a very Discovery focused panel. There’s no chance that Star Trek: Discovery doesn’t end up being the center of this year’s Comic-Con Star Trek panel. Let’s hope we get to hear some great stuff about the new series and possibly even see a new trailer. Having some shots of the Discovery in action instead of just the Shezhou would be fantastic!
