Pau Gasol has agreed to re-sign with the San Antonio Spurs on a new three-year deal. The Gasol deal likely caps off the Spurs offseason.

The San Antonio Spurs aren’t going anywhere. Pau Gasol has reached an agreement with the San Antonio Spurs on a new three-year deal. Gasol was productive in his first season with the Spurs averaging 12.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Gasol was also efficient from the floor shooting .502 percent. With Gasol back in the fold, the Spurs remain in the Western Conference arms race.

Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the news:

Woj also added that the third year includes a partial guarantee. Gasol, 37, will turn 40 by the end of the deal so the Spurs could get out of the deal towards the end of it.

San Antonio has had an interesting offseason. Jonathon Simmons has departed for Orlando, but otherwise, the band will basically be brought back. Re-signing Patty Mills to a lucrative extension was the most notable move for the Spurs up till this point. Rudy Gay has also signed this offseason adding to their depth. The starting front court of LaMarcus Aldrige and Pau Gasol will return to action in 2017-2018.

The Spurs are fresh off a 61-win season and figure to remain in the hunt in a loaded Western Conference. With Houston adding Chris Paul this offseason, San Antonio will likely battle the Rockets as the second seed out West.

The Warriors juggernaut isn’t going away, but San Antonio is here to stay. San Antonio hasn’t had a losing season since the 1996-1997 season. For a small market team, the Spurs have built a winning culture where star players always want to play. Gregg Popovich has been the mastermind of this dynasty.
