Report: Gerald Henderson could miss entire season

Free agent wing Gerald Henderson will have surgery on his hip and could miss the entire season.
Gerald Henderson played last season for the Philadelphia 76ers but was waived the day before his salary was set to become guaranteed.
Around the league it was a bit of a mystery why the 29-year-old wing remained unsigned. It turns out that the hip that has bothered Henderson on and off will require surgery. Chris Haynes of ESPN reported the news in a tweet.
Since being drafted by the then Charlotte Bobcats in the first round of the 2009 draft, Henderson has been a steady 3-and-D player (although mostly D). He was part of the trade package that sent Nicolas Batum to Charlotte from Portland along with Noah Vonleh.
Henderson played last season for the 76ers after signing a two-year, $18 million contract during the summer of 2016. He played the final season of his contract with Portland before signing in Philadelphia.
Henderson started half of last year’s game for the 76ers. He averaged almost 10 points per game while shooting 35 percent from 3.
Henderson was brought in to be the steady veteran presence the team needed to help develop their glut of young talent. He was set to lose minutes to new free agent J.J. Redick. The development of young wings Robert Covington and Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot likely played a role in Henderson being waived.

With Henderson likely out for the season, it will be interesting to see if he can bounce back. The veteran will look to catch on with a team during the 2018-19 season.
