AL Wild Card Standings

New York Yankees (61-55, .526, +1.5)

The Yankees missed an opportunity to win their first series in August Sunday when Aroldis Chapman blew a save opportunity in the top of the ninth inning against the Red Sox and allowed an RBI single in the 10th. Chapman also allowed a run in his only other inning of work earlier in the week, but still picked up his 15th save against the Red Sox Friday.

Los Angeles Angels (61-58, .513, – GB)

The merry-go-round atop the AL Wild Card standings continued last week with the Angels rising to the second spot. C.J. Cron homered three times and drove in seven runs during the week, and also led the club with 11 hits and seven runs scored. Mike Trough and Andrelton Simmons each had seven hits and a homer last week as well.

Parker Bridwell was terrific in two starts, improving to 7-1 with a 2.88 ERA after picking up a pair of wins against the Orioles and Mariners. The win in Seattle Sunday capped a four-game sweep for Los Angeles.

Minnesota Twins (59-57, .509, 0.5 GB)

Kansas City Royals (59-58, .504, 1 GB)

Seattle Mariners (59-60, .496, 2 GB)

Tampa Bay Rays (59-60, .496, 2 GB)

Baltimore Orioles (58-60, .483, 2.5 GB)

Texas Rangers (56-60, .483, 3.5 GB)

Toronto Blue Jays (56-61, .479, 4 GB)

Detroit Tigers (53-64, .453, 7 GB)

Oakland Athletics (52-66, .441, 8.5 GB)

Chicago White Sox (45-70, .391, 14 GB)

The Royals lost their grip on the second Wild Card spot, but remain just one game behind in the race. The Twins used a six-game winning streak powered by Brian Dozier, Joe Mauer, Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler, to jump back into the mix as well.
