Phil Kessel isn’t shy about enjoying food and not caring about his figure, so it’s not surprising that hot dogs would be involved on his day with the Stanley Cup.

The Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup a few months ago, and, as tradition goes, every player gets to spend a day with the trophy before the next season gets going. Well, Monday signaled Phil Kessel’s day with the Cup, and he spent it exactly how you think he would.

Kessel has a wide reputation for enjoying food, and there was even a rumor back in 2015 that he ate a hot dog a day, which no one could really confirm or deny.

Well, when his turn came along, Kessel spent some unique time with the trophy, taking it out golfing with him on a sunny Monday afternoon. While it’s not entirely crazy to have the Stanley Cup as your golfing partner, it’s a little weird when the same trophy is stuffed with hot dogs.

Some players put cereal in the trophy, others drink alcohol out of it, but this was likely a first in the history of the Stanley Cup.

Earlier in the year during the team’s run to the Stanley Cup, Kessel’s teammate Evgeni Malkin pulled a little prank alongside the team’s equipment manager, creating “The Phil Zone”. The area came complete with Coke cans, Tim Horton’s and some coffee, and Malkin mentioned in the caption that “The only thing @PKessel81 is missing is his hot dogs”.

Malkin later joked that he’d never seen Kessel eat a hot dog, but Kessel apparently took things a step further by shoving as many hot dogs as possible into the Stanley Cup as a rebuttal.

To be fair, hot dogs are a solid snack to have when you’re midway through a round of golf, so maybe Kessel found the secret to a successful golf outing on Monday.
