Serena Williams and fiancé Alexis Ohanian welcome a baby girl.

Of course, it’s the middle of the U.S. Open and Serena Williams is still making headlines right in the middle of it, except this time with a new type of trophy, a six pound, 13 ounce girl with fiancé Alexis Ohanian.

The tennis legend said she and her fiancé had opted to not find out the sex of the child ahead of time, but in an interview with Vogue she had already guessed she was having a girl, saying that only a girl could go through the kind of challenging conditions she faced while winning her record 23rd grand slam at the Australian Open.

“I was playing in 100-degree weather, and that baby never gave me any trouble. Ride or die. Women are tough that way,” Williams said.

Williams, 35, was induced Thursday night, and gave birth Friday, September 1, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. The announcement was made by WPBF-25 news producer Chris Shepherd via Twitter. Mother and baby are both reportedly doing well.

Williams and Ohanian got engaged in December 2016, but no wedding date has been set. She plans to be back on the court in the new year.

Sister Venus Williams is in New York, competing in the U.S. Open and was playing her third round on Friday, up a set in her match against M. Sakkari. No doubt she will want to send her congratulations to her new niece as soon as her match is done.

With genes like that, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a new Williams girl playing the tennis circuit in the future. If her little girl does play a sport, Serena wants to make sure she earns equal pay as well.

“If my daughter were to play a sport, and she was able to have equal prize money and equal pay or equal rights,” Williams told BBC earlier this year. “I feel like that would be a success too.”

Tennis legend, entrepreneur, fiancée, and now mom! Serena now has it all.
