Josh Allen

QB, Wyoming

After facing a tough string of road games against Iowa and Oregon to start the season, Wyoming’s Josh Allen finally flashed his enormous potential in the Cowboys’ 45-10 win over Texas State. The junior threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns, doubling his season touchdown total.

Though his 55.4 percent completion rate in 2017 is still a cause for concern, Allen made the type of plays this week that show his potential as a truly special quarterback prospect. He may have the best arm of any quarterback in this class, illustrated by an absolute bullet over the middle of the field that he threw for his second touchdown. Unlike some of the other quarterback prospects in this class with his size, Allen is a great athlete who can also beat a defense with his legs and improvising skill when the pocket breaks down.

Obviously, routing a team like Texas State is a result that you should expect from an elite quarterback prospect but regardless, the rest of the season should hopefully bode well for boosting Allen’s confidence after a tough start to the year. I still love his competitiveness and based purely on tools, I think Allen still has the highest ceiling of any quarterback in this class. Don’t be surprised if he continues to remain near the top of these rankings as we make our way through the remainder of 2017.
