Here are 10 current NBA duos that would make great tag teams in WWE.

The NBA has long been an extremely popular form of entertainment. Once overshadowed by baseball and football in the United States, the game of basketball really took off in the 1980s with the emergence of stars such as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan, and hasn’t looked back, growing into a worldwide phenomenon that was on full display when the first Dream Team appeared at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Since then, the number of international players has grown exponentially and the popularity of the NBA around the world is as high as it’s ever been.

In the same manner, WWE also took off in the 1980s with the emergence of stars like Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Randy Savage and others, and also hasn’t looked back. In the past four decades, professional wrestling has become one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the world, featuring some of the best athletes on the planet. And yes, whether you really think that or not given the nature of the business, these men and women are true athletes.

What I love about sports and/or sports entertainment are the storylines they can create. Much like WWE where there can be good guys and bad guys, the NBA can create the same kind of drama. Ask Kevin Durant. KD had a great thing going in Oklahoma City with Russell Westbrook, creating one of the best one-two punches in the league, and then just left. For those that are unaware with wrestling vocabulary, that’s what’s called a heel turn. You build yourself up as a hero and a good guy, and then turn your back on the fans and side with a rival.

Look at the situation we’ve got right now with Kyrie Irving. That’s classic WWE storytelling. You’ve got one of the best NBA duos going with arguably the best player in the world in LeBron James. But he got tired of living in a shadow and wanted to go out on his own. That kind of story has played out countless times in WWE.

Tag team wrestling can get tricky. Some guys spend their entire career as part of a team while others go off on their own. Or some guys start their career as a singles wrestler, run out of things to do, and wind up in a random tag team. That’s kind of what we’ve got with Cesaro & Sheamus right now. Both had some success in singles competition, got a little stale, but now find themselves in one of the most entertaining duos in WWE.

So with all of that said, what I really wanted to do was just have a little fun. Personally, I’ve been a big fan of both the NBA and WWE since that boom period in the ’80s and thought some like-minded individuals might enjoy taking a look at 10 current NBA duos that would make for entertaining WWE tag teams.
