Bruce Pearl Is Already Basically Fired

Depending on when you read this, Auburn Tigers head coach Bruce Pearl might already be fired. Not because Auburn is underachieving, though the Tigers have since Pearl joined the program, but due to the fact he refuses to meet with investigators in regard to the FBI’s probe of the college basketball.

Let’s make something more clear than a failed Pepsi rebrand: It isn’t even the feds that want to interview Pearl, it is the university itself. And still, Pearl is refusing to meet with a school that is willing to sign his checks in 2017.

Auburn has since said — cough, claimed — that it would not tolerate Pearl if he would not be more cooperative during this time of tribulation. That being said, you kind of get what you signed up for, as Pearl came to Auburn with all the BBQ filled baggage.

If Pearl is allowed to play this season out without repercussions for an assistant coach being one of those “few bad eggs” Rick Pitino always used to talk about, fully expect him to be operating on a short leash.

It is the middle of November. The Auburn Tigers have just dismissed two more coaches from the basketball staff. There’s almost a zero percent chance Pearl survives this season. It isn’t a matter of if, but when.
