Eagles embarrass Cowboys on national television, 37-9

On Sunday night at AT&T Stadium, the Philadelphia Eagles routed the Dallas Cowboys. What did we learn from this NFC East showdown?

It’s always interesting when the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys renew acquaintances, especially when there is so much on the line. The Birds brought an 8-1 record into the Sunday night showdown at AT&T Stadium, as well as the fact that the team had won five of their last seven road tilts in this series.

Meanwhile, Jason Garrett’s club comes off a 27-7 loss at Atlanta which saw them minus running back Ezekiel Elliott and left tackle Tyron Smith. That was going to be the case again vs. the Eagles. Dallas would also be without stellar middle linebacker Sean Lee.

It’s never boring when these longtime NFC East foes clash. And when Al, Cris and Michelle were all finished doing their jobs on Sunday evening, the Birds soared to an impressive 37-9 victory.

Three Stars

1. QB Carson Wentz

He barely completed half of his passes (14-of-27) but he was in command of an offense that rolled up 383 total yards in the rout of the Cowboys. Wentz threw two touchdown passes in the 37-9 victory.

2. RB Jay Ajayi

The Eagles ran for 215 yards at Dallas and the former Miami Dolphins’ Pro Bowler had 91 of those yards on only seven carries.

3. DE Derek Barnett

The 2017 first-round pick finished with three tackles and a pair of sacks as the Eagles limited the Cowboys to three field goals on Sunday night.

Odds

Entering Sunday night’s action at AT&T Stadium, the NFC East leaders were 5.5-point favorites to get their ninth win in 10 games. The explosive Birds were averaging a brisk 31.4 points per game prior to this showdown with the Cowboys, hence the healthy over/under 47.

Next Week

The Philadelphia Eagles return home next Sunday for a battle with the Chicago Bears. It will feature a meeting between the last two second overall picks in the NFL draft in Philadelphia’s Carson Wentz (2016) and Chicago’s Mitch Trubisky (2017). Meanwhile, it’s a short week for the Dallas Cowboys as they play hosts to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thanksgiving afternoon.
