Why Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson fans?

There isn’t a bigger star in the world than Dwayne Johnson. Full stop.

During his wrestling days he went by the moniker “The Rock”, but that now acts as an accurate description of his box office staying power. In 2017 his movies combined to gross well over $1 billion and his lifetime earnings are up there with the likes of some of Hollywood’s greatest legends.

As fantastic as The Rock is, and no Jabroni will ever try to doubt him, he’s not spending the billions of dollars at theaters himself. His fans, ones that started following him in the 90s during his WWE career, have remained loyal over the years unlike any other fandoms in the world. They staying power of his fandom is as strong — if not stronger — than his box office prowess and that’s only the beginning of what made our editorial panel fall in love with The Rock’s fans.

His social media presence is strong, totaling over 12 million followers on Twitter, and his fans present their passion regularly. It’s not just WWE fans rehashing old clips from the ring, it’s fans busting out Miami Hurricanes jerseys that callback to his college football playing days. It’s fans stopping not just to take selfies with him but to thank him for meaning so much to their lives. Johnson recently posted a video on his Instagram where kids walking past his truck freaked out at the sight of him. Videos like that litter his page and serve as constant reminders that The Rock is always a softie when it comes to the symbiotic relationship he has with fans.

That’s the kind of thing you can’t quantify, it’s just an organic passion that can’t be explained by an exact science. What it tells us, however, is that The Rock has the best fandom of any celebrity our editorial panel looked at.

What is the FanSided Fandom 250?

The Fandom 250 is the ultimate ranking of fandoms. From sports teams and movie franchises to Instagram celebrities and brands, if something has an avid, sometimes rabid, fanbase, FanSided wants to honor those fans and — in the spirit of healthy competition — rank ‘em.

The Fandom 250 is divided into 16 categories: NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, Soccer, NCAA, Sports Figures, Celebrities, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Comics, Gaming, Brands, Internet Famous and Other. All 250 qualifying fandoms will be ranked both within their categories and against the field, so fans can see how the object of their devotion stacks up against its peers and in the fan landscape at large.
