16. Bournemouth: Start Jermain Defoe more often

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe signed Jermain Defoe for a reason, but surely not to simply warm the bench.

For whatever reason, Howe has been content to leave Defoe out of the starting XI in almost half of the Cherries’ league games. Defoe may be 35, but he hasn’t forgotten where the net is, so it’s time Howe got his star striker more involved.

Not having a prolific focal point has wasted a lot of Bournemouth’s attractive approach play. A midfield pass-master as talented as Andrew Surman needs a true finisher ahead of him.

It’s why the Cherries brought Defoe back to the club in the summer. Time to start letting him do what he does best.
