In their final game of 2017, City had the chance to match Bayern Munich 19 game winning streak against Crystal Palace. Bayern set the record under current City manager Pep Guardiola, who could break the record against Watford. After an up and down first season, Guardiola has fully implemented his system and added the players he wanted to City. The results have been incredible as the Citizens are playing like the best team in Premier League history. After 20 games, City have scored 61 goals, the most in the Premier League and allowed the fewest. City’s goal differential is 22 goals better than second best Manchester United.
In the first game of 2018, Watford are in the middle of the table despite being one of the worst defensive teams. Manager Marco Silva’s Hornets have allowed the third most goals in the Premier League. While Watford have struggled to defend, they have been better than expected moving forward, with Abdoulaye Doucouré leading the club in scoring.
