Premier League matchweek 23: Staff picks and predictions
By Staff
The FanSided soccer staff make their predictions for the weekend’s Premier League games, including Liverpool vs. Manchester City at Anfield.
The Premier League returns after a week of FA Cup action and a midweek of League Cup action. The highlight of the weekend comes at Anfield on Sunday, when league leaders Manchester City travel to take on Liverpool.
The Citizens have dominated the league so far, and have a 15-point lead with 16 matches remaining. Still, while they look nailed on for the title, it remains to be seen whether they can complete the season without losing a league match.
The trip to Anfield will certainly be one of their toughest tests of the campaign. It’s been a long time since City won away to Liverpool; they last managed it in May of 2003. However, in the first match between these sides this season, City won 5-0 at the Etihad.
Jurgen Klopp felt Sadio Mane’s first-half red card proved decisive in that match, and will be desperate to prove his side are closer to City than the table might suggest. He’ll have to do it without without Philippe Coutinho, as the playmaker finally secured a move to Barcelona.
The other standout matches of the weekend see Chelsea host Leicester at Stamford Bridge; Everton travel to Wembley to take on Tottenham; and Stoke play Manchester United in their first match since sacking Mark Hughes.
