Sam Rockwell was the latest actor to drop by SNL and bring an F-bomb along with him.

Live television is always a dicey proposition and Saturday Night Live is perhaps the most dangerous place to play with that fire. Last season Kristen Stewart dropped an f-bomb in her opening monologue, but she has company this season with Sam Rockwell.

At least Rockwell made it to his first sketch before dropping his bomb. The whole skit was based on a science teacher on educational television who wasn’t quite getting through to his students. As his rage rose, Rockwell was supposed to play up his frustration — except he went a little too method with it.

Just watch, it’s quick but it’s memorable.

That’s what happens when you’re live from coast-to-coast. Mostly, it’s hilarious and actually makes the skit better. There’s no way that the kids could be that stupid — yet they are.

This isn’t the first time someone has cursed on SNL and it won’t be the last. Jenny Slate infamously swore during a skit and was then kindly let go from the show. Charles Rocket dropped an f-bomb on the show and was fired in a less nice way, and it ended up defining his career in a lot of ways.

Truthfully, this shouldn’t be that big of a deal anymore. We’re in 2018, the idea that words can hurt us is as prevalent as ever but we’ve advanced beyond the seven dirty words. As a society, we’ve evolved from the days where dropping an f-bomb on live television is something that will scar the children, or whatever.

Rockwell said a bad word on national television. But given the amount of actually offensive things that are said in the middle of a work week these days, this should rank pretty low on the outrage scale. It’s nothing if not amusing.
