The first pics of Brie Larson in costume as Captain Marvel surfaced today, and the internet, as usual, is an array of hyped, confused and a little upset…
Marvel has been taking their sweet, sweet time but yes next year we are indeed getting a female-led comic book movie from the premiere movie universe. Captain Marvel is currently in production and already sets itself apart from most other recent comic book movies by not only having a female lead but taking place in the 1990s. So while there might be some nods to the future of the MCU and a couple of characters who would’ve been active during that time period (i.e. Sam Jackson is in the movie as a younger Nick Fury), don’t expect a cameo from Ant-Man or Doctor Strange (ok, maybe Doctor Strange, because he can transcend time and space, but probably not).
The first official pictures of Brie Larson in her official Captain Marvel gear on the set of the film surfaced today, and not surprisingly, the denizens of Twitter have a pretty mixed reaction. Some love the outfit no matter what, some think it’s terrible, some are all for the very 90s haircut! Let’s take a good look at some of the reactions we’ve seen today:
So as you can see, there is a pretty wide range of reactions. Many seem to think that the green suit is at most a temporary outfit and Captain Marvel will be in her more familiar red and blue by the end of the movie. That’s certainly a possibility, but it might depend on where the movie ends as far as timelines go.
One thing is for sure, Marvel and Disney have a pretty spectacular track record with their comic book movies, and I seriously doubt Captain Marvel will be their first major cinematic misfire. We’ll find out for sure when it hits theaters March 6th of next year…
