2018 NBA Mock Draft: Collin Sexton could break open the New York Knicks’ ceiling
I watched Williams’ matchup against Missouri and fellow first-round prospect Jontay Porter over the weekend, and came away pleased with Williams’ progress after a sleepy start to the season.
His engine will still be a question as he gets in the room with scouts and front office people in May and June, but coach Billy Kennedy has empowered him to become a bigger part of the offense during conference play and he handled that responsibility well on Saturday. Williams took jumpers when they were open (and missed most of them), but maintained the rhythm of his usual role.
He is one of the better rebounders in the NCAA when he fights for loose balls. That’s not always the case, but one would hope that in the NBA, where he will have to fight for minutes and make his value felt, he would be in the mix on the glass. Williams at his locked-in best is all over the court, passing through ball reversals and screening constantly.
If he can get back to his best, the Aggies will be a factor in March once again.
