Aubameyang opens his scoring account following a missed offside call
Arsenal put on a convincing performance against Everton on Saturday, crushing the Toffees 5-1 in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s debut for the Gunners. It couldn’t have been a more auspicious beginning for the much-ballyhooed signing whose breakaway pace and ability to find space behind opponent defenses should make for a successful career in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s win was clearly well deserved but we should let the record show that Aubameyang’s first goal for his new club was not without controversy, as he’s clearly shown to be behind the last Everton defender at the moment the ball is played to him.
Arsenal were off to a flying start, putting three goals past Jordan Pickford after only 20 minutes. Aubameyang opened his scoring account once the result was beyond much doubt, making it 4-0 for Arsenal in the first half. However inconsequential a missed decision this may have been, the offside was evident and the call should have been made.
