Disney has let loose some of their plans for their upcoming streaming site, one of which will be the production of a Star Wars titled TV series.
If you were skeptical about Disney’s attempt to get in on the streaming service industry, worry no longer.
The company has announced that they would be releasing five TV series as a part of their inaugural streaming site, including a Star Wars branded series.
All Star Wars content is good Star Wars content in my book, and any new additions to the new-canon would be welcome.
However, I think we do have a few clues as to where the series might go.
With Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels taking care of the in-between eras of the Clone Wars and Galactic Empire, the natural progression would be to the Old Republic.
You might say “but why would they do that after retconning literally everything from the expanded universe,” and I would agree with you if not for several clues coming out of the Disney/Lucasfilm camp.
Disney and Lucasfilm have mentioned the desire and the intent to reintroduce former Legends/Expanded Universe characters after the successful way in which they reintegrated Grand Admiral Thrawn into the new-canon along with Star Wars Rebels, and it would be the perfect time to reintroduce a series set in the Old Republic.
Show directors, producers and writers could do anything they wanted with the Old Republic, as it is an era that is practically untouched in new canon and any and all characters are long gone by the time the canonical films are set.
Look, I’m not saying that we would get Darth Revan or Darth Bane or Satele Shan or anyone amazing like that, but I have a feeling that we will definitely see the Old Republic once against and this is the perfect opportunity.
