2018 NBA Mock Draft: Trae Young could reset the Kings backcourt
The Blazers don’t have much in the way of long-term big men. They invested a lot in Meyers Leonard, who hasn’t gotten much better than he was when he signed his contract extension in 2016. They traded for Jusuf Nurkic, who has been inconsistent in his year-and-a-half in Portland. Neither is part of their long-term plans.
Robinson could be.
The smooth, freakish big man currently spending a year out of basketball is the big man prospect many are overlooking. As he readies himself for the draft this year, Robinson is hopefully adding muscle and studying the game. Phyiscally, he has all the tools.
As a finisher on the pick-and-roll, Robinson’s quickness should give him room to get open for easy baskets around the rim. And he is so much longer and more athletic than his opponents that he will be able to leap and box out better than a lot of guys.
Plus, there is the unicorn upside of his 3-point shot and rim protection. At No. 16, that potential is impossible for an in-between team like the Blazers to pass up.
