The NCAA College basketball selection committee made some terrible decisions with their latest NCAA Tournament rankings, so we are here to make things right, of sorts, with an early March Madness Sweet 16 of our own.

We are quickly approaching the most wonderful time of the year — no, not Christmas, but March Madness. The NCAA tournament selection committee recently announced their top 16 teams, much like the College Football Playoff committee does in the weeks leading up to their variation of their Final Four.

As par for the course, the members of the board hugely missed the mark. But, lucky for you, we are here to bring order to the galaxy and clean up their mess — with a more balanced and fair approach. In case you missed it, here is the most recent College basketball NCAA Tournament top 16 teams.

Virginia earned the top spot, as the No. 1 overall seed — with all of the top four seeds ranking as follows:

No. 1 Seeds:

  • Virginia
  • Villanova
  • Xavier
  • Purdue

No. 2 Seeds:

  • Auburn
  • Kansas
  • Duke
  • Cincinnati

No. 3 Seeds

  • Michigan State
  • Texas Tech
  • North Carolina
  • Clemson

No. 4 Seeds

  • Ohio State
  • Arizona
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma

Off the bat, North Carolina has no business as a top-four seed — “earning” that designation on their name brand alone. They didn’t belong even before their blowout loss to Duke on Valentine’s Day. Oklahoma is a more debatable case, but more of a five seed caliber team at best. No doubt having College Basketball version of Steph Curry, Trae Young, boosted their overall ranking.

The same rings true for Ohio State, who’s likewise overrated — where a five seed is where they belong instead. The Power 5 bias is growing stronger and stronger each season, evident in the Selection Committee’s picks, thus far.

The omission of Rhode Island and Gonzaga is insulting, with both of those teams belonging to this elite group. But, the Mid Major team are always up against it — just ask Wichita State and its seeding during the Greg Marshall era.

Bracketology 101 is in session, and here is our current Sweet 16 bunch — teams we believe are deserving of each seed and NOT our prediction on what’s going to play out on Selection Sunday. Without further ado, our top 16 teams (1-4 seeds) for the NCAA tournament.
