3. More secondary help

The Chiefs secondary wasn’t very good last year, and it was plain as day. The only defensive back that had a good season was Marcus Peters, and even he had some forgettable moments. The team acquired Kendall Fuller in the Alex Smith trade, and he is quite possibly the best slot corner in the league. David Amerson was also inked to a one-year deal, providing depth.

Steven Nelson had to miss the first seven games of the season, and like everyone else had an up and down season. The Chiefs like Nelson, and he’s improving every season so it’s doubtful the acquisition of Fuller would keep him off the field entirely. The Chiefs were in dime defense on 43 percent of their defensive snaps last season which means they rely heavily on their secondary.

Losing an All-Pro safety like Eric Berry in the first week of the season is a major blow, and it had a lot to do with the teams struggles in the secondary. That being said his return will be a major bonus for this secondary.

Even with Berry coming back the Chiefs will probably still look to add another corner or two. Not just for depth purposes, but seeing as Bob Sutton asks a ton of his secondary they want to be as talented as possible at the position. If they were to land someone like Trumaine Johnson they could make a case for the best secondary in the league.
