March is coming and so is another Big 12 title for the Kansas Jayhawks, could a number one seed be next?

The madness of March is right around the corner, and as Selection Sunday gets closer the anxiety of basketball fans around the country continues to rise. Who will land one of the coveted top seeds in the tournament, and who will land the best of those seeds?

This past week saw a lot of movement and we start out with some controversy right on the top seed line.

   No. 1 Seeds

1. Villanova (24-3) (East-Boston)

2. Virginia (24-2) (South-Atlanta)

3. Xavier (24-4) (West-Los Angeles)

4. Kansas (22-6) (Midwest-Omaha)

After the craziness of the last few weeks, we’ve needed some stability or come as close as we can to having some stability on the top seed line. As we start this first ever seed report, I have Villanova as the best team in America even with the loss at Providence. We saw the Wildcats rebound an impressive trip to Xavier this past Saturday.

Speaking of the Musketeers, you may be wondering why I’ve got Xavier as a No.1 seed after they lost to Villanova on Saturday. When you look at the numbers, Xavier ranked 3rd in the RPI, 5th in Strength of Schedule and an impressive 24 wins (the same as Villanova and Virginia).

Then there is Kansas. I struggled with the Kansas vs. Michigan State debate for the last spot on the top seed line. I’m going with the Jayhawks this week based on their overall body of work, despite Michigan State’s 26 wins compared to KU’s 21. The Jayhawks have much better wins, especially within the conference. Kansas has 12 quality wins while Michigan State has three.

Sorry Sparty, you’re on the two line.

Games of note this week

February 21st

Xavier at Georgetown

Xavier may be one of the weaker one seeds right now so a win at Georgetown is huge if they want to hold off the likes of Kansas and Michigan State.

February 24th

Villanova at Creighton

The Wildcats survived one road test last week, can they survive one at Creighton?

Kansas at Texas Tech

Kansas did their job on Monday and now will sit back and see what Texas Tech can do, if the Red Raiders can’t then Kansas could be headed to Lubbock with the Big 12 title in their grasp.

February 26th

Texas at Kansas

Kansas may be wrapping up another Big 12 title by the time this game goes final.
